The Road Ahead: Oddie Wells Project Update

The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County and Granite Construction recently completed major construction of Phase 3 of the Oddie Wells Project. Phase 3 is a stretch of the roadway between Silverada Boulevard and Sutro Street. Crews are continuing their work on Phase 4 between Sutro Street and Interstate 80.  Completion of the entire project is expected by early fall.

The RTC held a community event at Carniceria Tres Amigos on Sutro Street, June 1 to celebrate the completion of Phase 3.

“We always want the community to celebrate the improvements in their neighborhoods but it’s also a chance for us to thank them for their patience during construction,” Josh MacEachern, RTC Public Information Officer said. “This project has so many benefits to the residents and businesses along Oddie Wells, so we can also answer any questions people might have. It was a great event and we think everyone had a fun time.”

Many of the improvements along the 3.2-mile corridor between Pyramid Way and I-80 are safety-related. Drivers have a new and improved roadway but the upgrades to lighting, cycle tracks, sidewalks, and for Americans with disabilities enhance safety. They also add a level of comfort for people who walk, ride bikes or use a wheelchair. The project could also have economic impacts by reinvigorating businesses along Oddie Boulevard. Some of the businesses are seeing positive outcomes and many other businesses are planning to move into the area.
